Council Meeting Minutes

The meeting was called to order at 9:35 a.m. A quorum was established.
Motion to approve the December 17 Executive Council meeting minutes moved by David Sheridan; seconded by Joe Roberto. Minutes were approved unanimously by a voice vote.
Officer Reports:
Treasurer: Dennis Levy
· Motion to approve the Treasurer’s Report moved by Karen Weber; seconded by David Sheridan. Treasurer’s Report was approved unanimously by a voice vote.
Past President: David Sheridan
· David is putting together the Executive Council ballot for 2005-2006. There are a few slots still open on the ballot.
Committee Reports:
College Goal Sunday: Michael Bennett
· Michael distributed information on the College Goal Sunday program, including the Preliminary Planning Application; Frequently Asked Questions; Partners and Potential Funding Sources and a Preliminary Planning Grant Timeline.
· He gave a presentation on this program, including information on its history, funding sources, state participants, preliminary planning grant and implementation grant.
· He will continue to report back to Executive Council on the progress of this program.
Conference:
·
The committee will meet today.
Development: Kimber Decker
· Kimber and Dennis will send invoices to the vendors who are still unpaid for the fall conference.
· Kimber will contact vendors in mid-February regarding sponsorship for the spring conference.
EASFAA Update: Joe Roberto
· The next committee meeting will be held in the end of January, when the committee will visit Atlantic City.
Electronic
Initiatives:

Larry Sharp has been working with ATAC on the design of
our new Web site. The database upgrade
is underway.
Government Relations: Lissa Anderson
·
The next committee meeting will be held on February 1.
·
Lissa will appoint liaisons to New Jersey Congress
members and distribute the NJASFAA brochure to the Congress members.
·
Fran Andrea will attend the next meeting to update the
committee on state issues.
Membership:
·
The association has 431 members.
Mentoring: Gloria Green
· The committee has planned a “Hi Five” luncheon for February; a visit to the Rutgers University Office of Financial Aid in March; recognition at the spring conference in April; a visit to HESAA for a spring loan day in May; and participation in Novice training in June.
Newsletter:
·
The fall conference issue of the newsletter will be
distributed soon.
Non-Traditional Concerns: Helen Mikulak
· The committee met on January 14.
· The next committee meeting will be held in March.
Novice Training: Jo-Ann Craig and Debra Wulff
· Novice training will be held June 21 - 24, 2005 at Drew University.
· Jo-Ann and Debra have a list of modules and need volunteers to be trainers.
· They will invite John Iacovelli to present a session.
Public Relations: Mark Singer
· Mark sent a press release to local newspapers to promote the Hotline, which will be held January 23 - 28, 2005.
Scholarship: Jean Hathaway
· Jean has updated the materials from last year.
· The first announcement for the scholarship will be sent in January.
· The application will be placed on our Web site.
Training and Professional Development: Patricia Guli
· The next committee meeting will be held on January 26 to discuss spring workshops.
· Topics will include a Support Staff workshop and an NSLDS workshop.
· “Verification by the Numbers” will be held in March.
HESAA Update: Francine Andrea
· Steven Tessitore has been named the new Director of Financial Aid Services at HESAA.
· Ken Jones has transferred departments within HESAA. He is now a Marketing Representative with Client Services.
· Derek Gatling is leaving HESAA for a position as a Marketing Representative with Educaid.
· HESAA will develop a loan redemption program for students who enter the mental health field.
· The teacher fellow redemption program will move forward.
· There are 48 bills open in the Legislature that involve HESAA, two of which are important. One bill requires public institutions to withhold tuition for students who are parents, spouses or children of those killed, missing in action or disabled in the Iraqi war. The second bill establishes a program to provide college scholarships to the parent, spouses and children of those killed, missing in action or disabled in the Iraqi war.
· HESAA will purchase a new phone system and anticipates that it will be installed in May or June.
Old Business:
· Maribeth reviewed the list of Past Presidents and sent a letter offering lifetime membership to ten of them. Emmett Bivens and Paul Gilroy responded to the letter.
· The next Audit Committee meeting will be held on February 9.
New Business:
· A financial aid consultant is advertising his company and Web site to financial aid administrators.
